I was a birdwatcher from a very young age and that interested deepened when I moved from Derbyshire to study at Newcastle University and met Martin (fellow OWE guide). Nearly thirty three years later we’re still together and still birdwatching (mainly on the Northumberland coast, although our local patch gets a lot of our attention). I’ve been Chair, Treasurer and Secretary of the Northumberland & Tyneside Bird Club, and I’m one of the owners of Northern Experience Wildlife Tours.

My first cruise with OWE was to Belfast, Stornoway and Orkney in May 2024, when we had a stunning aurora display as we sailed through the Pentland Firth (straight after watching Howard Johnson’s Freddie Mercury tribute, which was a cruise highlight in itself!), and then I was part of the team on a cruise to the Faroes & Iceland in July 2025.  Many whale and dolphin species were seen on that trip as well as lots of seabirds and it was a real pleasure and privilege to be able to share those experiences with cruise guests and to help them see some unforgettable wildlife. Sharing my love of the natural world with others is something I really enjoy, and a real contrast to my day job as a property litigation solicitor.

When I am not outside enjoying my local green (and blue) spaces, or busy working, then I can generally be found cooking or eating lovely food or enjoying live music.
